Shore Road - Peter Bogaczewicz

Shore Road

The built environment is a necessary response to inhabiting a particular natural environment, but as the connection to place becomes ingrained, the predominately pragmatic response to habitation gives way to a more emotional one of identity. The maritime identity asserts a particular hold on its inhabitants for its dual relation—to land and water—and the sense of its epic frontier.

On the surface “Shore Road” is a visual survey of a Canadian maritime region, but the observations reach deeper, touching on the grounding force of nature and the passage of time, and the role of progress—as the human factor that's the drive behind the built environment—sometimes advancing and sometimes leaving communities behind.
